Slavery and the Underground Railroad activity and game

This is one of those rare opportunities to bring learning to real life. Students will actually be participating in a simulated underground railroad in either an evening activity, or adapted for the school day where students travel to different safe houses (could be different classrooms or places outside) in search of freedom. Other students or parent volunteers play the roll of police. This activity becomes a highlight of students’ elementary career. This file includes the general overview, rules, variations, and things you need. It also includes a parent letter completely explaining the activity, as well as a reminder note describing last minute details and a list of things to bring. The sample underground railroad course can be used and adapted for where ever you choose to run this activity. Hope you enjoy!
